STRIPER FISHING INFO
The Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries first stocked Gulf Coast Saltwater Striped Bass into Smith Lake in 1983. This striper stocking program has been ongoing every year to ensure a quality fishery. Smith Lake's deep water has produced the perfect habitat for growing stripers. Many stripers in the 40-lb.+ range have been taken while 20 lb. stripers are common. Stripers in the 8 to 13 lb. size are the average.
Fishing is year-round with the stripers being caught either by drifting live bait or casting artificial bait.
TACKLE INFO
All tackle is provided for the different fishing methods.
- Rods are 7 feet in length (bait casting and spinning).
- Brands are All Star, Seeker and Airrus.
- Reels are Shimano.
- Line is 15 to 20 lb. P-Line.

- Food and drinks
- Warm clothing - It is always cool on early morning boat rides.

- Cooler for fish - 48 qt. minimum
