- What is the best time of year to go fishing?
The old answer has always been "when you can," but there is no denying that the spring months of March, April, and May offer the best time of the year for our 30 to 40 lb. fish. The most consistent fishing during the year will be the summer and fall months. Two other months that I consider to be "big fish" months are September and December.
- Where is Smith Lake located?
Smith Lake is located in north central Alabama approximately 40 miles north of Birmingham via I-65 North.
- What time do we start fishing?
I try to get started at daylight, except in the summertime when I run night trips.
- What do I need to bring for the fishing trip?
Bring your food and drinks, warm clothing, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, and cooler to take fish home.
- Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, you need an AL fishing license, which can be purchased at local stores or by calling 1-888-848-6887.
- Do you ever take fly fishermen?
Yes, some have caught stripers over 20 lbs.
- How many people can you take fishing?
The maximum number of clients on my boat is three. I have other guides that I work with each year on corporate outings, Sunday school fellowships, and family get-togethers. It is possible to arrange a trip for 15 people with advance notice.
- Do you have gift certificates?
Yes, gift certificates make great gifts for birthdays, graduations, retirements, anniversaries, and corporate incentives.
